The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Indicators Program provides data and information for decision makers at the local, regional, and state levels. The program is composed of three signature components: a Data Portal, the Data for Decision Makers publications, and Data Literacy training.

Indicators Portal


The Indicators Portal provides users with the ability to query, analyze, visualize, and map data stored in the Indicators Database system. These integrated databases also allow for the production of publications such as Data for Decision Makers reports and the Iowa Government Finance Initiative (IGFI) Annual Fiscal Conditions reports.

Data for Decision Makers


The Data for Decision Makers are brief reports presenting a profile and snapshot of a city’s, county’s, or region’s demographic, economic, social, health, or housing characteristics. These reports are frequently updated as new and revised data become available.

Data Literacy & U.S. Census 2020


The Data Literacy Program provides workshops for participants to develop understanding and knowledge of data concepts, measures, uses, and interpretation. Participants develop skills to discuss data and to apply this information to solving local questions.
