Socioeconomic Data Dashboard

Explore demographic and economic data for Iowa cities to better understand the context for zoning decisions and housing development patterns.

The graphs provided in this dashboard are sourced from U.S. Census Bureau data. The specific data used for each are noted in the caption of each graph. Using the options to the right of each graph, the viewer may view a summary of all data (the default option), by individual cities**, or our study typologies. Some graphs also provide the option of displaying summary data for the State of Iowa, the U.S. and/or Metropolitan Statistical Area.

**Our dataset of individual cities includes the original 330 communities that were the total sample size for our zoning study. In contrast our interactive zoning maps include the subset of 243 cities from which we were able to collect both usable zoning codes and zoning maps.

For a rich dataset of housing-related data the viewer is urged to investigate the Iowa Finance Authority's Iowa Profile Tool, found at https://www.welcomehomeia.com/iowaprofile/.

The Iowa State Data Center provides an official Web site of U.S. Census Bureau with demographic, social, economic, and housing statistics about Iowa, found at https://www.iowadatacenter.org.
